Present the 2012 Cipher Challenge Event

BCS are pleased to sponsor the annual University of Southampton National Cipher Challenge.

This nationwide online code breaking competition is designed to get young people excited about mathematics and computing. Each year thousands of students from hundreds of schools participate. The competition is open to anyone in full time education, aged 18 and under.

The ultimate winners of the challenge are invited to a prize-giving day at Bletchley Park on Friday 30 March 2012. The event will begin with a lecture by guest speaker Dr Katie Chicot, from the Open University.

Winners of the challenge in 2010:

  • First Prize of £1000, sponsored by GCHQ went to David Edey from Alcester Grammar School.
  • Second Prize of £800, sponsored by IBM was awarded to Team Kryptos of Peter Symonds College in Winchester.
  • Third Prize of £700, sponsored by Trinity College Cambridge went to Team ULTRA: Like Totally Radical Awesome from Silverdale School, Sheffield.
