Hardware Reviews

  • Despite having worked in technology for well over 15 years there are some things that still amaze me. One is how cheap memory and storage now is, the other is how display technology has come on and how much cheaper it now is.
  • When it comes to gaming, once you’ve got your graphics sorted the next thing you want to master is your audio. You can either get some big speakers, or if you like me you have young children who are in bed by the time I start gaming, then you need some decent headphones instead.
  • Projectors are big, noisy and you need lots of space in order to project your images. Although this used to be the case, that is not always so as is the case with the BOXi MP-350.
  • Stream your music over Bluetooth with this handy little receiver.
  • As I unpacked this sturdy free-standing audio speaker I got a variety of responses from my co-denizens in the office: ‘is it one of the eggs from “Alien”, is it a modernist tulip?’ No - it’s a Dragon Lily.
  • Call me capricious, call me flighty, call me fickle, call me disloyal, call me Susan if you like, I really don’t care. The thing is, I’m not a brand loyalty kind of guy. I loved my original PlayStation when it came out in the 90s. I loved my PlayStation 2 even more as it followed hot on the heels of the turn of the century (it’s still my favourite console).
  • It used to be that you thought you were lucky to have a mobile phone. As they have become ubiquitous, not just in our private lives but also in business, in some ways you are lucky to have just one phone and not two or more to carry around.
  • Once upon a time music and film fans would take great delight in how they stored their music collection. With most music now digital this is a thing of the past, but that doesn’t always mean that storing and accessing music is any easier.
  • One of the biggest downsides with headphones are the wires. With Bluetooth these can be cut down to a minimum.
  • Boost the sound from your TV with this beast of a speaker. It may not be cheap, but it sounds great.
