Work with BCS to promote CITP status

Membership organisations

The Institute can license other bodies with IT Professionals as members to award CITP status and certificates of current competence. To be eligible the organisation needs to be able to meet the following criteria:

  • A cohort of members who are employed using skills defined by BCS as within the scope of the IT Profession1
  • A Code of Conduct that applies to all members of the organisation that meets minimum standards laid down by BCS
  • Procedures for disciplining members who break the Code of Conduct
  • A CPD obligation as a condition of membership
  • The capacity, either directly or facilitated by a fulfilment partner, to assess the experience and depth of knowledge of applicants in line with the criteria set out in the CITP standard

For further guidance contact the BCS Regulation and Standards Manager on +44 (0) 1793 417708 or via the online enquiry form.

The membership bodies currently able to award CITP status are:

  • BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT
  • Irish Computer Society (ICS)
  • Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)
  • Institute of IT Professionals New Zealand
  • Swedish Computer Society (Dataföreningen i Sverige)

Certification bodies

If you are an awarding body that provides certifications for IT professionals in areas of competence defined by BCS as within the scope of the IT Profession it is possible that your certifications could qualify holders for exemption from part of the awarding process for CITP status.

To discuss this option please contact the BCS Registration and Standards Manager on +44 (0) 1793 417708 or via the online enquiry form.
