What's the issue?

The 2014 Women in IT Scorecard, produced in conjunction with Tech Partnerships, shows that women account for just 15-18% of IT professionals and when we drill down to specialist areas within the IT sector itself only 11 per cent of IT specialists are women.

Research shows that when girls do take part in computing subjects at GCSE and A Level they outperform their male counterparts. The research shows that 76.3 per cent of females (compared to 69.2 per cent of males) who took an IT related full course GCSE were awarded A*- C grades.

How does the campaign help?

Role models are one key aspect in helping to encourage more women into the IT profession. So throughout June we will feature women who work in IT, including CIOs, CEOs, apprentices and many more. They have all volunteered to act as role models and share their stories and experiences about working in the IT profession in order to inspire others to enter the IT profession.
