Karen Burt Award

This Award commemorates the life of Dr Karen Burt who encouraged women to take up chartered status and to promote the engineering profession.

It is awarded by the Women's Engineering Society, and is presented annually to a high calibre newly-chartered female engineer in any discipline, who has demonstrated a commitment to the promotion of her profession. The chosen candidate will have been awarded Chartered status within 12 months prior to 1 July.

Dr Karen Burt was an eminent physicist who gained her PhD in electron microscopy at Reading University before joining British Aerospace Systems as a project engineer for scientific satellites.
