Frequently asked questions

What is the BCS SIGIST?
BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, promotes wider social and economic progress through the advancement of information technology science and practice. The SIGIST is one of the largest of the BCS's 57 specialist groups. View our mission.

Where do you meet?
We meet at the London BCS Offices at 5 Southampton Street, London, WC2E 7HA (see http://www.bcs.org/upload/pdf/london-office-guide.pdf).

Do I have to join the BCS to come to SIGIST meetings?
No.

What do I get from the SIGIST?
You receive a regular mailshot announcing the next conference and a link to our newsletter - 'The Tester' with features, articles and SIGIST news.

You have an opportunity to meet and network with like minded fellow professionals whose sole interest is usually software testing.

Is there a discount for students and lecturers?
Yes. The fee for full time students and academics is £50 plus VAT which includes copies of all presentation slides, papers and an excellent lunch.

What are 'birds of a feather' sessions?
During our 1 day conferences we often split the attendees up into small discussion groups. We call these 'birds of a feather sessions'. Each group will discuss a particular aspect of software testing.

I'd like to speak at one of your conferences. Whom should I contact?
We're always looking for people with a story to tell at one of our conferences. If you'd like to present or know someone who would be interested please visit the Call for Speakers section for more information.

First time speakers are especially welcome. We don't pay a fee but we give you free access to the day and exhibition.
