Karen Spärck Jones (1935 - 2007)

Karen Sparck-Jones Karen Spärck Jones, winner of this year's BCS Lovelace Medal, died on 4 April aged 71.

Her area of expertise was in automatic language and information processing research which she had worked on from the late 1950s.

She was a fellow of the British Academy, an AAAI and ECCAI fellow, and was president of the Association for Computational Linguistics in 1994. She has received seven awards for her research including, in 2004, the ACL Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2007, the ACM-AAAI Allen Newell Award.
