Synopsis:

You will probably have seen that IT/IS and IT Service Management (ITSM) raises much debate around difficulty in implementation, culture and education. Maybe you have thought about getting the framework, practices and spirit embedded into the newcomers in the industry? Modern Apprenticeships can do this and a number of companies are off the mark and have been running the schemes for a couple of years now. In this event you can hear from both apprentices and employers in two such companies (IBM and Transport for London), on their experience, thoughts and aspirations within IT and ITSM, with a keynote introduction from the UK Government National Apprenticeship Service on how there is a national drive to enable employers to succeed with apprentices.

There are two key drivers for this event:

1. To encourage company IT department to consider apprentices in addition to graduates,

2. To show that IT apprentices can, and should, be involved in Service

Management/ Business Management and not just traditional IT such as networking or server administration.

The SMSG would like to see plenty of audience participation as well followed by our usual mix of networking, imparting wisdom (or at the very least warnings...!) and a small glass of wine or two - the younger apprentices will stick to the soft drinks...

The BCS (including its specialist groups) is a charity organisation and our purpose is to promote knowledge and social progress through the use of IS/IT and via a professional, motivated, skilled population. Young people are key to this and making sure industry can bring youngsters in and instil professional values and best practice from the start will benefit us all.
