British Oceanographic Data centre - a national facility for preserving and distributing marine data (it's not just about the storage!)

Karen Vickers has spent most of her working life employed by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). She has had over 30 years experience working in IT, the past 12 years in database development and project management for the British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC).

Karen obtained her BSc with the Open University and her MSc with the Sheffield Hallam University. She is now one of the senior developers for BODC and is particularly interested in the Lean approach to software development which she is currently advocating within her team. Karen is passionate about two things in IT - the preservation of scientific data and developing the potential of her team and colleagues.
