Synopsis:

Robin Mannings, who is responsible for the BT Exact University Research Programme, is one of the most experienced and well-known experts in the field of wireless and mobility. Working with clients, suppliers, academia and teams within BT his goal is the commercialisation of research in the rapidly converging technologies of Digital Wireless and Internet. His presentation covered these potentially disruptive technologies and discussed them with reference to major social and economic trends in business and society. He focused on technologies relevant to BTs business areas, and drew on material from BT's Strategic University Research Programme which is closely linked to work at MIT.

Robin's career includes; mobile radio system development (with Philips), university research into radio multiplexing and wireless data (at the University of Bath), and application of new technology for business (with BT Exact Technologies, Adastral Park, Martlesham Heath). His international reputation was principally established through his work on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) including positioning and tracking applications. Robin has written numerous technical papers and book chapters and he speaks frequently at conferences, specialist gatherings and in the media. He is a Chartered Engineer and is a Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers. He is currently studying for a Professional Doctorate at Lancaster University in the area of wireless positioning systems.
