Alastair Revell, a mathematics graduate, is the Chairman and Managing Consultant of Revell Research Systems, a management and technology consulting practice that he established in 1985.

Alastair has been the Director General of the Institution of Analysts and Programmers (IAP) since 2011. He was elected a member of its Council in 2009 and appointed its Membership Director in 2010. He is also a Member of the Editorial Board of Software Development Practice.

He has undertaken (in a part-time capacity to provide industrial perspective) the development and assessment of 15 IT modules leading to undergraduate awards by the University of Plymouth between 1996 and 2006, including a significant portion of an FdSc Internet Technology with Business programme.

He was appointed by the UK Information Commissioner to his Technology Reference Panel in 2011. He has also sat on the Stakeholder Advisory Group of the Trustworthy Software Initiative chaired by Sir Edmund Burton since 2014.

He is Vice-Chair of the BCS Membership Board Best Practice Committee (2010 onwards; Vice-Chair since 2014). He has been the Publicity Officer of the BCS South West branch since 2008. He holds a CITP Certificate of Current Competence. He is also a CITP Assessor (2010 onwards) and has recently acted as a SFIA6Plus Reviewer.

Alastair is keen to see the BCS Organisational Membership Scheme developed to attract smaller IT firms and to strengthen the Institute’s links with communities outside the BCS.
