Dr. Tony Field BSc PhD DIC FBCS CEng

Dr Tony FieldTony Field is a Reader in Performance Engineering at Imperial College London. He graduated from the University of Reading with a BSc in Computer Science and completed a PhD and DIC in Computing from Imperial College. He has been an academic in the Department of Computing at Imperial since 1985. His research is focused on performance engineering, with particular emphasis on the use of performance models to guide system optimization. He also maintains a strong interest in functional programming having published the widely-read book of the same name with Peter Harrison and having taught and promoted Haskell programming in the Computing Department for many years.

He has a strong interest in computer science education, both in evolving course structure and content and in enhancing the student experience. He has acted as Course Director for Imperial’s Information Systems Engineering degree and is currently Director of Studies for the undergraduate Computing degrees. He has won numerous teaching awards at student, Faculty and College level.

His is a Fellow of the BCS and a member of the IET and ACM.
