Jahzan Ahamed first became interested in IT in Grade 4 when a representative from Google visited his school - the students were invited to hear him talk about Google, Arduino, Raspberry Pi and the IT industry in general. He played videos about upcoming Google products and the work they do.
Jahzan recalls his surprise at seeing the Google engineers in the video with their shorts and sandals dress code. The guy from Google hosted tutorials with the school students around the basics of Arduino, and from that day Jahzan was hooked and set his goals on becoming an IT engineer.
Now in Grade 12, Jahzan complements his school studies with BCS qualifications. He’s completed his Certificate in IT and recently begun the Diploma in IT – studying at the Matrix Institute of Information Technology (PVT) Ltd in Colombo.
When he’s finished his studies, Jahzan wants to follow a career in IT security, as an ethical hacker or cyber security expert. Inspired by the school visit back in Grade 4, he’d love to work at Google’s HQ in the US and ultimately run his own business, following in the footsteps of Steve Jobs.
To say thanks to Jahzan for his contribution to ExcITing Futures, we sent him a Raspberry Pi kit which he plans to use to help his studies... he’s started learning Python which he can now practice on the Pi. He also intends to create his own games on it, which he’ll show at the IT exhibitions run at his school.
Good luck with your study and career aspirations, Jahzan. Remember, we heard his name here first!
