Synopsis:

On the 15th of May Digital Jersey’s new community space 'Digital Jersey Hub' was officially launched. Throughout the day several presentations and chats took place.

We took the opportunity to host a roundtable discussion on building technical communities. We were joined by members of the digital community including representation from TechTribes, BCS Jersey, Channel Islands SharePoint User Group, Channel Islands Information Security Forum, Jersey Windows User Group, Jersey and Guernsey businesses leaders, media and representation from Guernsey’s technical communities.

A number of topics were covered including Jersey as a place for more technical conferences, including working towards greater collaboration between Jersey and Guernsey’s technical communities.

We discussed the potential for more topic specific community events rather than individual technology related events. For example FinTech, E-commerce, Maker and E-Gov. We unanimously agreed that while there are many public speakers we need to encourage many more to step forwards. It was noted that the Digital Jersey sessions, TechTribes and BCS Lightning talks all offer an excellent format for short talks and more of these should be scheduled.

Finally, it has to be said that Digital Jersey have provide an outstanding environment in which technical communities can collaborate and their launch day was a great success.
