About BCS Health and Care

The BCS Health and Care Executive reports to the Institute’s Community Board. BCS Health and care provides a focus on the health sector both from a policy perspective and as a community.

Members of the Health and Care executive contribute to and provide leadership within the BCS public policy development around health, and engagement with the wider health and care community.

We are currently seeking nominations for the role of Vice Chair Standards.

Particular to the role, the main tasks of the VC Standards will be:

  • Represent BCS to the committees directly concerned with technical standards activities in health informatics within the UK: INTEROPen, BSI IST/35, IHE-UK, HL7 UK, openEHR.
  • Track standards activities in EFMI and IMIA, via liaison with the appropriate national representatives to ensure coordination and coherence.
  • Ensure strong links between professional standards and technical standards.
  • Encourage the participation of the UK health informatics community in technical standards activities.
  • Develop strong links with the supplier community and encourage co-production of technical standards across NHS informatics professionals, clinical practitioners, suppliers, academic community, patients and voluntary carers.
  • Report on standards development activity at BCS Health and Care executive face to face and virtual meetings.
  • Report on standards development to the wider BCS membership through media channels such as articles, blogs and social media.

Appointment process

18 September - 10 October - Sought Nominations

  • All Nominators and nominees must be a member of 1BCS Health and have a BCS Membership by 10 October 2017.
  • Nominations and nominee biographies must be submitted to groups@bcs.uk by noon on 10 October 2017.

16 October - 30 October 2017: Membership Vote

  • On 16 October 2017 all members of 1BCS Health who have a BCS Membership by 10 October 2017 will be invited to vote for their preferred candidate. If only one application is received for a role, the nominee may be elected to the position by Chair approval.

27 October March 2017 - Successful Candidate is announced
