Wanna host a Windows 7 party?

The marketing of IT can make you cringe - and I don't just mean the frankly awful Windows 7 party stuff.

Here’s some sample dialogue:

'It's just throwing a party with Windows 7 as an honoured guest.'

'Make sure you upload Windows 7 A COUPLE OF DAYS before the party' (Why? Ed.)

'The most important thing is to be totally creative with your party.'

'This really is our launch.'

There is a long dishonourable tradition of awful advertising in IT - and don't think Apple get off lightly. Their mix of media trendies and boho dudes come in for a lot of ribbing as well.

And, of course, there's good stuff...For example you may have heard that BCS is now The Chartered Institute for IT. So check out this pic.

Anyway, here's how to throw that awesome party...

BTW, I'm shortly to enjoy the privilege of interviewing Sir Tim Berners-Lee again - any suggestions for good questions gratefully received.

When looking at the retail, gaming and cyber warfare riven Internet today does Sir Tim ever think " If only I had known, I should have become a watchmaker."?

Question for Sir Tim: Do you think that artificial life forms (as defined by Biophysics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life#Biophysics ) may already exist in the Internet?

What about "artificial intelligent" life forms?

It's actually a very good marketing idea, promoting launch parties. It would probably work for Apple or even Google, but it's cringeworthy because nobody thinks Microsoft or its products are "cool".
