How NHS Wales defeated WannaCry - a talk on Cyber Security, and on applying a Cyber Security Blueprint for NHS Wales

Speakers:

Carwyn Lloyd Jones, Director if ICT, NHS Wales Informatics Service
Martin Webley, Head of Cyber Security, and on applying a Cyber Security Blueprint for NHS Wales

Synopsis:

May 2017 saw, for the first time in England and Scotland the result of a sophisticated ransomware attack impacting the NHS, leading to ambulances being turned away and patients having their operations cancelled whilst preparing to go in to theatre. The WannaCry virus, as it became known, had a profound and very public impact on Informatics Services as one hospital after another reported that it had been affected; nearly 50 in total.

BCS has since published it’s Blueprint for Cyber Security in Health and Care.

In this talk, Martin Webley, Head of Cyber Security at NHS Wales Informatics Services, and Carwyn Lloyd-Jones, Director of ICT, will look back at the impact of WannaCry in NHS Wales, and discuss how it informs the NHS Wales Cyber Security Blueprint for the future.

As a public service organisation, NHS Wales Informatics Service supply over 70 software services to users across NHS Wales and to other parts of the United Kingdom.
