Details:

Jeremy Holt is always a popular and amusing speaker at BCS Wiltshire Branch – usually addressing legal matters relevant to information, information systems and information technology! He is a partner in the firm of Clark Holt Commercial Solicitors in Swindon (www.clarkholt.com), where he heads the firm’s Computer Law Group. He has written widely on computer matters and is a former secretary of BCS's Law Specialist Group. In 2003 he helped found in Swindon, the country’s first computer museum (www.museumofcomputing.org.uk). He is co-editor of the BCS publication 'A Manager’s Guide to IT Law'.

Next year substantial changes will come into effect in relation to the keeping and protection of personal data. The current Data Protection Act will cease to apply. These new rules are set out in the General Data Protection Regulation, known more succinctly as the GDPR.

Failure to follow the new rules could result in fines of up to the higher of 4% of turnover or €20 million for either data controllers or data processors.

This talk will be of interest to anybody who:

Holds personal data or arranges for its distribution, and/or

Writes software (as the new rules require it to be designed to comply with the principles of data protection, data portability and data destruction in relation to personal data), and/or is involved in general management.
