The importance of authorisations in SAP licensing and GDPR for SAP

SAM Networking is an independent event for SAM practitioners to create an environment for healthy debate, but it is not for commercial gain.

End user organisations, vendors, market analysts, service organisations and others attend this event, and we welcome new participants.

SAP users require a set of permissions in order to be able to access relevant functionality in the SAP systems and perform their jobs. The named user licenses in the contract(s) explain or allude to what the different user categories are allowed to perform in the SAP systems. Gaining better visibility of roles and authorisations (and their usage) is critical to ensure proper licensing.

With the new GDPR regulation coming into effect on the 25 May it is important for organisations to identify what SAP systems contain sensitive personal data, how to manage that data and how to control/protect the access.

Also for GDPR, the effective management of SAP authorisations is key to ensure compliance.
