Nominees for Professional Development Award to face BCS judging panel

18 September 2003

The first round of judging for the coveted BCS's IT Professional Development Awards has begun, with five companies due to present their entries to a panel of BCS judges this month.

The Award was open to any organisation in possession of the ISQW (Information Systems Quality at Work) Award, which is a BCS initiative designed to recognise, support and encourage best practice within employers' career development programmes. ISQW is a unique achievement and is only awarded to organisations who have achieved BCS accreditation against a set of strict criteria.

Once accredited and awarded the ISQW, organisations are eligible to compete for the BCS IT Professional Development Awards which recognise and award the quality of these career development programmes.

The Award is split into two categories: Best ISQW Implementation and Best Established ISQW Scheme. The nominations are as follows:

  • Best ISQW Implementation Scheme: Deloitte Consulting; Aseriti and Bridgend County Borough Council
  • Best Established ISQW Scheme: Royal Sun Alliance and Brunei Shell Petroleum

The five nominees are to provide a presentation on their career development practices and demonstrate a genuine commitment to employees' career enhancement and progression in order to convince the BCS panel that their scheme is the most worthy of the prestigious IT Professional Development Award.

David Clarke, BCS Chief Executive said, "To be in receipt of the BCS IT Professional Development Award demonstrates the utmost commitment to employee career development and is a highly sought after industry acknowledgment. More and more leading organisations such as Ford, 3Comm and the Scottish Executive are adopting the ISQW Award as a standard for improving business performance and competitiveness. The nominees must be congratulated for coming this far and achieving ISQW and the BCS wishes them all luck with the additional Professional Development Awards."

The winning organisations will receive their awards at the Annual IT Professional Development Forum held at the Scottish Executive on 27th November.
