IBM, DTI and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP Support Launch of New Recognition for British IT Achievement

BCS has launched a new IT Professional Awards showcase to mark the vital contribution of British IT to the nation's business and economic success.

The BCS IT Professional Awards brings together two formerly established Awards programmes into a single, high profile event to reflect and celebrate the nation's IT industry as a leading global player. Entries are now open for the Awards leading to a glittering Awards Gala Dinner at London's Park Lane Hilton in September.

The BCS IT Professional Awards has been developed in association with leading events and publishing firm Quest Media, organisers of The National Business Awards. The launch sponsors include PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, IBM and the DTI amongst others.

BCS Chief Executive David Clarke said: "Two of the most exciting events in the BCS calendar to date have been the BCS's IT Awards for Excellence and Innovation and the equally important BCS Management Awards. These recognised the respective roles of ingenuity and managerial skills in enhancing IT to increase business efficiency and improve customer service.

"BCS has now decided to bring these two significant events together within a single annual ceremony. This, I believe, will generate even greater recognition of British IT achievement. The new BCS IT Professional Awards will underline one of BCS's key roles: to nurture and applaud individual ingenuity and entrepreneurial success that have made the nation's IT industry a leading global player. They will also mark the vital contribution made by our IT profession to both the economy and to business and public services."

Keith Taylor, Senior Product Planner at IBM said: "IBM is pleased to be able to help launch the next generation of awards from BCS and looks forward to a consistently high standard of judges and winners."

Kulwarn Nagra, European Leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP's Computer and Networks Group said: "Given PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP's very substantial presence in advising companies in the technology sector, we are delighted to be sponsors of these awards, run by BCS, the most eminent IT professional body in the UK."

There are a range of different categories to choose from, each recognising innovation, success and achievement. Individual awards include IT Director of the Year, aimed at those who represent IT at board level or who head major IT departments or projects, Young Practitioner of the Year and The Lifetime Achievement Award.

There are also a range of different Business Achievement Awards recognising the Public, Commercial & Industrial and Financial Services Sectors; and several Technology Awards for Applications, Services, and Systems.

The judging procedure remains as rigorous and thorough as in previous BCS competitions, involving panels of experienced and respected senior practitioners drawn from the IT world.

The entry process is designed to be as straightforward as possible, involving registration followed by the completion of an entry form. All the short listed finalists will be required to make presentations to the judges. All the finalists will be invited to the glittering Awards presentation before an audience of more than 700 IT professionals and other special VIP guests on Wednesday, September 24.

The closing date for entries is April 17. Further details on how to enter the BCS IT Professional Awards are available from Alberto Sbicca at Quest Media, telephone 020 7378 1188 or email alberto.sbicca@quest-media.com.
