BCS Summer in the City - Dragon Boat Challenge

17 people per boat - 16 rowers and one person to beat the drum.

On Friday 31st July a Charity Dragon Boat Race started at 6pm from the Lagan Watersports Centre.  The race was jointly arranged by Liberty IT and the Belfast branch of BCS.  5 teams entered the race, participants from Liberty IT (2 teams), Bank of Ireland (BOI), ICS Computing and Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) IS Division, approx 75 people particpating.

Food for all participants and prize giving, sponsored by BCS took place in the Edge Bar afterwards. The IS Division team captain Ashleigh Gibson was awarded the trophy, by Daniel Mooney, Chairman of BCS Belfast Branch. 

There was great support for the teams as spectators watched the races from the balcony on the Edge and gave a small donation. A total of £350 was raised at the event and charities supported this year include Marie Curie, Macmillan Cancer Support, NI Children’s hospice, UNICEF, Help the Aged & Oxfam Ireland.
