According to BCS, under age usage of any digital device for illegally downloading copyright protected images, films or music, is no excuse in the eyes of the law. Parents are held responsible for their children's access to the internet if they are under 18.

And with most children being more computer savvy than their parents, there is a real danger of many parents unwittingly being penalised for their offspring's on-line trespasses in the New Year.

Furthermore, copyright owners of recorded music and film rights are increasingly vigilant and likely to prosecute infringement.
