BCS Hampshire Branch and BCSWomen events on International Women's Day

Date:
Wednesday 8 March 2006

Venue:
Sir James Matthews Building Room SMO11 , (located on Above Bar Street, opposite the Guildhall). Number 1 on Location map 1

On behalf of the Hampshire Branch of BCS, BCSWomen and the Southampton Solent University, we would like to invite all ICT teachers and Careers Advisors and other interested persons to a celebration of the opportunities for girls (and also boys) in the computer industry.

The presenters for both the afternoon and evening session include:

  • Judy Goodlet of Radio Solent, who following a computing degree, worked in the IT industry before changing to the media;
  • Margaret Ross, Professor at Southampton Solent University, BCS Hampshire Chairman and member of the BCS Schools Expert panel

The afternoon and evening sessions will be a mixture of information on current and future trends for jobs both in the ICT industry and progressing to other careers.

Both are free and you would be most welcome to come to either.

Afternoon event from 2 to 4pm - please prebook via Louise.Howson@soton.ac.uk 023 8031 9539, in order to arrange refreshments prior to the event etc. Refreshments will be available from 1.00pm in the Cafe in the Square.

The evening starts at 6.30 to 8.30, open to all, also free and requires no prebooking, but I would appreciate if you could email if you plan to come to the evening event, the content would be similar to the afternoon session.

Please pass on details of these two free events.

We are hoping to have 2 other events, one at the Southampton University at 5.30, and another in the morning at the University of Winchester, but I am awaiting final confirmation on these.
