A UK man has been convicted of a crime and fined one thousand pounds after being prosecuted for a status update on social networking site Twitter.

Twenty six year old Paul Chambers, who claimed that he was joking, tweeted that he was going to blow up the snow-bound Robin Hood airport if it didn't re-open in time for him to visit a girl he had earlier met on the website.

The message was picked up by security managers at the airport, who passed it on to police even though they did not consider the threat credible.

It comes as Twitter has had to fix a security flaw that allowed users to force others to follow them on the site, celebrities were particularly affected as people rushed to add them to their list of followers.ADNFCR-2575-ID-19769176-ADNFCR
