Get your career to take off or fly in a new direction

25 April 2006

Row of paper chain people By joining a local BCS committee, you can develop your professional skills for free.

May is the main month for volunteering to be a committee member as it is when BCS branches and specialist groups hold their annual general meetings (AGMs).

In joining your local committee, you can benefit by:

  • Adding to your CV by improving your technical and life/management skills.
  • Having your say by influencing branch and specialist group activities.
  • Meeting new people, having fun and increasing valuable networking opportunities.
  • Sharing your new ideas with us. Your unique experience, creativity and knowledge will be highly valued by BCS.

Each BCS branch and specialist group is required to have at least a chair, treasurer and secretary, plus three other committee members. Most branches and some specialist groups also have a Young Professionals Group representative (under the age of 35) with other committee members varying in age with many under 45.

Candidates for the chair, treasurer and secretary need to make themselves known 14 days prior to the AGM and are then elected by group members at the AGM, many of which are held in May.
