The Impact of Virtual Presence on Work and Leisure

Date:
Wednesday 15 June 2011

Venue:
Polycom EBC, Dashwood House, 69 Old Broad Street, London EC2M 1QS

Time:
6:30pm (prompt start) to 8:30pm

Speaker:

Stuart Monks, Vice President of Engineering, Video Solutions Group, Polycom

Educated at Manchester University and Santa Clara University, Stuart is now vice president of engineering for video solutions (hardware and software for high-definition video conferencing) at Polycom in Pleasanton, California - the company perhaps best known for its ubiquitous iconic triangular conference telephones.

With offices, labs and factories in many different time zones, the company practices what it preaches and uses its own products extensively throughout its offices and in employees' homes, allowing virtual face-to-face meetings to take place virtually (!) anywhere at any time of day.

Stuart has noticed that this has led to marked shifts in the life and work patterns of himself, his family and his co-workers, and he will provide insights into the likely impacts of the spread of this technology.

The talk followed a full tour of the EBC technology showcase, including live demonstrations, which took around 90 minutes.
