BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, has today announced that Paul Fletcher will take up the role of Group Chief Executive Officer from 1 September following the retirement at the end of June of David Clarke MBE, current Group CEO. Paul will join the Institute from RM plc where he is Group Managing Director, Education Technology.
Professor Liz Bacon, BCS President says: “We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Fletcher as Group Chief Executive Officer for BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. Paul will take over from David Clarke MBE, who has been an outstanding leader of the Institute over the past twelve years, making it the globally respected organisation it is today.”
Under David’s leadership which began in May 2002, the Institute has almost doubled its membership from 38,000 to over 75,000, revenues have grown by over 150% and investments have been made to ensure that the Institute remains relevant to IT professionals, industry, academia and the public. In 2011, David was awarded an MBE for his services to the IT industry, and is regularly cited as one of the most influential individuals in the IT sector.
Liz adds: “When David retires as Group CEO, he will leave an organisation radically different to the one he joined; one that is set up for a sustainable future, ready to be taken forward by Paul Fletcher, his successor. The standing and reach of the Institute has never been higher.”
Paul Fletcher has 25 years’ experience in technology and education. He began his career with Messier Dowty Limited, moving to KPMG Consulting and A T Kearney before joining RM plc in 2005.

Group Finance Director Philip Jones will be Acting Group CEO between 30 June and 1 September.
