Technology enhanced learning and its impact on the way we learn

Liz BaconProfessor Liz Bacon BSc, PhD, FBCS, CEng, CSci, CITP, FHEA, MACM is President of the BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, and Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor at the University of Greenwich. She is Professor of Software Engineering and is/has been involved in many professional activities during her career which include working with e-skills UK, the Science Council, Parliamentary IT Committee (PITCOM), EQANIE (European Quality Assurance Network for Informatics Education), the National HE STEM Programme and being an ICT Thought Leader for the University of Cambridge International Examinations. Prof Bacon is a Co-Director of the eCentre, research group which is a cross-institution research group with a focus on e-learning and has about 40 members. She has been involved in software engineering and e-learning research for more than 10 years, this includes work on personalisation, serious games, and enterprise development. She is an experienced systems designer and developer, with the bulk of her research and practice activity being directly industry facing, through knowledge transfer and consultancy. Liz is passionate about the development of the discipline and keen to inspire more people to choose computing as a career, particularly women.

'Digital by Default' - driving a new approach to agile software development

Peter CampbellPeter Campbell is CTO Digital at Kainos responsible for a range of major new digital technology projects designed to help organisations and their people to work smarter, faster and better. Peter graduated from Queens University Belfast in 1998 with a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and following a placement with British Energy joined Kainos as a Software Engineer delivering projects in C, C++, Solaris and Java. He then moved into the role of Technical and Solutions Architect specialising in J2EE and the ColdFusion rapid web application development platform working on projects for Deloitte and Microsoft before spending a short period of time with Parity as a Software Architect. He re-joined Kainos in 2009 as a Microsoft Architect and worked as the Technical Design Authority on a project for the NSPCC before moving to Kainos’s Evolve Healthcare product team and becoming the Evolve CTO. He has taken a keen interest in agile software project delivery and is currently CTO Digital with Kainos involved in a number of major ‘Digital by Default’ projects with the DVLA, Defra, the Home Office and a range of NHS Trusts.
