Big-Data technique is characterized by three Vs. In practice it utilizes HPC, parallel computing and intelligent algorithms for quick knowledge discovery or transactional processing. The presentation looks at Big-Data platforms HPCC, Hadoop and Splunk platform internals and NoSQL DBMS with parallel algorithms and research scenarios such as image fractal analysis and personal information entropy.

About the speaker:

Dr Jun Li is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Wolverhampton, teaching database modules. Previously he worked as Research Associate for University of Oxford, University of Cambridge and LondonMet University in the areas of medical image and biological modelling, economics modelling and statistical natural language processing. His research interests currently are in Big Data and Mathematical models.
