Synopsis:

Imagine a world where you interact with hundreds if not thousands of IoT devices. Currently each has their own web-site or enrolment process; clearly this will not scale.

The key tenants of privacy and primacy apply here; and surveys say that people want to maintain control of their relationships with their devices and more importantly their data; meanwhile large corporations are vying to control it all for you.

The challenge is when I buy my new car, how do I make it “my car”; why I buy my new IoT enabled light-bulb do I make it “my light-bulb” or “my families light-bulb” or “this houses light-bulb”; when I have an IoT enabled pacemaker fitted, how do I make it “my pacemaker” and more importantly how do I control who can see the data (all of “Organisation NHS”?) but only my cardiologist can modify it?

The current generation of digital identity fails to solve these problems; and getting the next generation of digital identity (Identity 3.0) right is key if IoT is going to be secure and acceptable to the general public
