Coventry Chapter - Pen Test Boot Camp

On Saturday 4 February 2017, the Coventry University Chapter played host to Sarith Chandra, Chair of the BCS YPISG. Sarith ran his Penetration Testing Boot Camp with the students.

Coventry University

Erik Barrow, chair of the Coventry Chapter let us know what happened on the day and the student’s opinions. Below is what he had to say;

'The students really enjoyed themselves, especially students from our courses that do not normally get to look into security. I have had a lot of positive feedback from students and some are already asking when the next training day will be happening.

The day started with learning about penetration testing and how to gather information about the system/company you are looking at, before progressing onto scanning networks for vulnerabilities and learning how to identify them. After a break for lunch (provided by BCS), the students got a chance to then attack some vulnerabilities on the system and learn about exploits. The day ended with a small competition to see which team could gain root access to one of the training machines first.

Thank you again to BCS for sending the team down to run the day as well as providing funding for the lunches.'

BCS would like to thank Sarith Chandra for his visit to Coventry and providing the Boot Camp to the students. We would also like to say well done to the Coventry Chapter on their successful event.
