"After a 9 and a half hour journey taking us down to London and over to Brussels via the Eurostar we arrived at our hotel in north Brussels. Several members then headed over to Brussels' famous Delirium Café for the FOSDEM Beer Event to meet and mingle with other attendees and to sample some of the best beer Brussels has to offer. Lots of other Aberystwyth alumni and industrial year students were also present, making for a fantastic night of socialising.

Bright and early on Saturday we headed over to the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Solbosch) for the first day of the event. Hundreds of talks & events and many waffles filled the next two days as members attended tracks and developer rooms on a variety of topics from speakers all around the Open Source community, and indeed the world. In all, society members attended over 120 talks and many open source project booths and demos.

As always we are proud to say some of our members gave their time volunteering to help both during the event and after to help clean up. FOSDEM is a totally free event volunteer-run event - Their contributions in helping the event run are always invaluable.

On Monday members had the chance to explore Brussels and take in the sights before boarding the Eurostar for the long trip home, getting into a snow-covered Aberystwyth on Tuesday morning.

This trip would not be possible without the support of the Computer Science Department at Aberystwyth University and the BCS for whom we would like to thank for their continual support.”
