During a very lively and probing debate at a workshop held by the Disability Group prior to the AGM the members present looked at the future nature and scope of the group. There was agreement that the Group had failed to meet its aims and objectives in recent years and that a new dynamic force was needed in this area.

The new Assistive Technology Group will foster the development and use of assistive technology. It will provide a place for people who work in AT to talk to each other at a professional level whilst encouraging other IT professionals to use and develop assistive technology by enabling constructive communication between practitioners and users of the technology.

It will enable users and practitioners to discuss issues as equals and gain insight onto each others perspective. It will be a focal point to learn about AT from the professional and technical perspective and find out how things are done or should be done.
