IT Can Help organiser wanted

Person having a job interview  IT Can Help, which provides free computer assistance to disabled people in their own homes, is looking for a national organiser for Wales. The role is home-based with travel throughout Wales with travel costs reimbursed.

IT Can Help is a national network of computer literate volunteers:

  1. IT support volunteers: visit clients and identify the disabled person's computer problem and resolve if possible, give impartial advice and assistance.

  2. County co-ordinators (CCs): co-ordinate and support the IT support volunteers within their county. Also visit clients in conjunction with the IT support volunteers or independently.

  3. Area organisers (AOs): liaise with the management group, develop and maintain the network across several counties and support the CCs in their area. AOs may choose also to visit clients but this is not essential.    

  4. Management group: manages the programme.

IT Can Help is a programme of BCS and works in partnership with AbilityNet to provide the most effective service possible to disabled people.

The post involves:

  • being a member of the management group;
  • working closely with other members of the management group, the area organisers and county co-ordinators to promote the network to a cross section of agencies and organisations in the principality with particular emphasis on identifying client sources;
  • recruiting and interviewing for suitability area organisers, county co-ordinators and support volunteers in areas where none in post;
  • arranging cover when area organisers and county co-ordinators are temporarily absent or posts are vacant.

National organiser profile

Applicants should:

  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills. Access at home to internet and email facilities. Own transport is essential and the ability to travel extensively.
  • Have administrative, management and co-ordinating experience and, ideally, IT experience.
  • Be empathetic to the needs of IT Can Help clients.
  • The post would suit someone who is retired or semi-retired and able to give the time commitment required on a consistent basis (one/two days per week on average but can be very flexible).
  • Applicant must be resident in Wales.
