The Wilkes Award winners for 2008 have now been announced. The Wilkes Award is given for the best paper published in a volume of The Computer Journal.
It is awarded each year to the author or authors of one paper appearing in the previous volume (year).
For 2008 there were two winners:
'Computing with time: from neural networks to sensor networks' by Dr Boleslaw K. Szymanski and Dr Gilbert G. Chen, published in The Computer Journal 2008 51(4):511-522. Both authors are from the Department of Computer Science, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA.
'The collective index: a technique for efficient processing of progressive queries' by Dr Qiang Zhu, Dr Brahim Medjahed, Anshuman Sharma, and Henry Huang, published in The Computer Journal 2008 51(6):662-676. Dr Zhu, Dr Medjahed and Anshuman Sharma are from the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Michigan, USA. Henry Huang is from the Research and Advanced Engineering division at the Ford Motor Company, Michigan, USA.
