Video games 'telling stories'

23/05/2007

Thanks to their growing capacity to tell stories, video games are increasingly an important means of extending the life of blockbuster movies.

That's according to top Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer, whose movies - including blockbusters like Top Gun, Bad Boys, Beverly Hills Cop, National Treasure and now the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy – have grossed over $11 billion (£5.5 million).

Speaking in an interview with AOL games, Mr Bruckheimer said that video games are another way to engage an audience in looking at films.

"You take these characters that the writers, director and our actors have created and then you transfer them to another medium" he explained.

"We try to tell great stories that engage you with interesting characters and interesting themes. Once video games got into that, then they weren't just Pac-Man. Then we can use our expertise... what we learned in films, and put it into video games," Mr Bruckheimer added.
