Global Email Charter proposed

01/12/2008

A Global Email Charter which will attempt to deal with the stress and anxiety caused by the channel has been proposed.

Communications consultancy firm Expert Messaging announced the idea following the publication of its study into workplace email.

It found that people receive 34 emails at work per day on average - but nearly half of these (47 per cent) do not help them with their work.

Additionally, the average person has 2,769 emails, while nearly three quarters (72 per cent) of users spend one hour or more on emails.

'Many people spend up to half of their working day chained to email, there is no doubt it has become a main way for businesses to communicate,' said Expert Messaging managing director Bob Hallewell.

'Paradoxically organisations pay almost no attention or provide any guidance on how it should be used.'

Last month it was revealed that, despite the publicity about the dangers of receiving malware via email, more is actually caused by web pages.
