Microsoft accuses Google

18/06/2009

Microsoft has claimed that Google's new Apps Sync for Outlook causes the former's email system to crash.

On the Outlook Blog, product manager Dev Balasubramanian wrote: 'The installation of the Google Apps Sync plugin disables Outlook's ability to search any and all of your Outlook data.'

Mr Balasubramanian said the problem was because the sync plugin for Outlook changes a registry key which affects Windows Desktop Search - used by Outlook for searching.

'It is also important to note that uninstalling the plugin may not fix the issue,' he added.

The Outlook team did produce a workaround on the blog to allow users to get round the problem, although Mr Balasubramanian added that the Apps Sync plugin also causes problems for Outlook Connector.

Microsoft has 'brought these issues to Google's attention' and has suggested working together in order to help consumers who use the products.

'As soon as this is done, we will publish more information,' the blog post concluded.
