Business Change SG launch event enjoyed three high-calibre speakers presenting to a capacity audience in the auditorium at the BT Centre, London. Look out for further good events, working with other SGs, Branches and other organisations, in particular the Director General Personal Tax, HMRC and a professor from CASS Business School, speaking at Kensington Town Hall, jointly with IIBA, on 17 November 2009.
Enterprise Architecture SG, launched in March 2009, has proved very popular, its membership fast approaching 1000. John A. Zachman, originator of the “Framework for Enterprise Architecture”, provided the attraction for the 6 October 2009 meeting.
Law SG has a wealth of expertise amongst its new committee members. ‘Topic champions’ are creating content for the new website, to be launched soon, which will provide a very useful resource for members.
Distributed and Scalable Computing SG is the new name for Parallel Processing SG. The expansion and modernisation of coverage should prove attractive to members under the chairmanship of Ian Osborne MBCS CITP of Intellect, one of BCS’s Professionalism Partners. Ian is Director of a Scalable Computing Programme within the new Digital Systems Knowledge Transfer Network (formerly the Grid Computing Now! Knowledge Transfer Network). Ian is also Vice President of Enterprise for the Open Grid Forum.
Information Risk Management and Audit SG has a new committee under the chairmanship of Paul Guckian MBCS. Renewed activity is anticipated.
Data Centre SG has gone from strength to strength since its formation and has provided the lead in European optimisation of Data Centres, developing the BCS/Carbon Trust’s Data Centre Cost and Energy Simulator software. SG Secretary, Liam Newcombe, chairs the best practice working group of the EU Code of Conduct for data centres and regularly speaks on behalf of Paolo Bertoldi the European Commissioner responsible for the code.
Green IT SG has provided a topical focus for ‘Green’ issues and has worked with the BCS Ethics Forum, the Carbon Footprint Working Group, and the Data Centre Specialist Group.
As part of BCS’s ongoing commitment to the understanding of the environmental issues associated with IT, BCS has developed an ISEB Foundation Certificate in Green IT.
