If you already hold a completed qualification that covers the HEQ syllabus, you may qualify for exemption from a particular module. If your application is successful and you are granted exemption, you will not be required to sit for that exam module.

There are two routes to exemption:

  1. Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)
  2. Individual Exemptions

Since 01 April 2017 there are new guidelines surrounding exemptions for HEQ. Individual qualification exemptions applied for and listed on the Record of Prior Learning, along with exemptions applied for on the Approved Prior Learning list, will count to a maximum of (50%) of each level of the BCS Higher Education Qualifications, excluding the Professional Project at levels 5 & 6, as per BCS’ exemption policy.

  • BCS Level 4 Certificate in IT/100/6190/2 - only 1 out of 3 modules can be exempt
  • BCS Level 5 Diploma in IT/100/6190/3 - only 2 out of 4 modules can be exempt
  • BCS Level 6 Professional Graduate Diploma in IT/100/6191/5 - only 2 out of 4 modules can be exempt

NB: (Level 5 & 6 - no exemption for the Professional Project)

Only qualifications sat within the last five years will be considered for exemption against HEQ modules.
