What's the fuss about big data?

Data & information layer is critical to delivering Enterprise wise Business and System capabilities. There is still a lot of talk around Big Data within the IT industry at the moment. Beyond the hype, however, there is value to be gained from this emerging field. But how do you achieve this within a mature and traditional IT department?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few years, the hype around Big Data and Analytics won’t have escaped your notice, but from an architectural perspective what fundamentals do these technologies change, and what design patterns have been seen to deliver business value? Get vendor perspective of Big Data architecture, but without the hype. We will in particular look at how set within the appropriate architectural framework, Big Data technologies can better enable Analytics across the organisation.


Doug Cackett:
Doug is the domain lead for Big Data and Information Management for Oracle’s team of Enterprise Architects working across Europe, Middle East and Africa. For the last 20 years in ORACLE, Doug has worked with many of ORACLE’s largest customers, particularly those who deal with ultra-high volume data or are seeking to consolidate their information delivery. He also works closely with Oracle's Big Data partners - for example Cloudera - establishing patterns for integrated information management solutions and is co-author of Oracle’s Reference Architecture for Information Management and a one of the main contributing authors on Oracle’s Data Warehouse method.

Paul White:
Paul is the Chief Enterprise Architect and Co-Founder of the IT Data Group at Royal Mail Group. He has been in the IT industry for over twenty-five years, working in several blue chip and government organisations in both the UK and Australia. He now works in the strategy and architecture space, with particular emphasis on how the intelligent use of data is critical for organisational success. Paul was awarded his BSc and MBA from the University of Durham, and a Masters by Research from Queen Mary, London.
