Enabling the Internet of Everything

Wednesday 6 April 2016

6.00pm  for 6.30pm

The Foresight Centre, University of Liverpool, 1 Brownlow Street, Liverpool, L69 3GL | Map and directions

Paul Freeman-Powell, Chief Executive, Telecoms Cloud

Telecoms Cloud is an API-driven telecommunications platform which gives developers the tools they require to incorporate scalable, highly-available telecoms functionality within their applications, using Telecoms Cloud's global infrastructure. After an in-depth tour of the Telecoms Cloud Network and its impressive capabilities, Paul will demonstrate the possibilities of a trigger-based event using a prototype Internet-enabled front door which sends an alert to the homeowner's phone each time it opens/closes, with the date and time of the event. He will then demonstrate on the big screen just how quick and easy it is to make inroads into the world of API-driven telecoms, coding a simple application from scratch to send a text message to an audience member's phone at the touch of a button.

This will be an interactive talk; if you want to bring your laptop you can follow along and write some basic code to build a simple app with the API to send a text message.  A LAMP environment in place on a VM (eg. ubuntu server on virtual box) would be beneficial.

This talk should give an exciting insight into what lies ahead in the Internet-connected world.

Paul Freeman-Powell is the Chief Executive at Telecoms Cloud, an entrepreneur, business consultant & mentor. As a technologist, Paul has over 16 years of experience building and running large-scale web systems and in business start-up & management.

A buffet will be available from 6:00pm.

This event is free and open to all, not just BCS members. Bring any of your friends and colleagues who may be interested.

If you intend to be present, please email Chris (cpursglove@bcs.org.uk ) so we can manage the accommodation and buffet.
