IoT - The first step towards becoming truly digital

Thursday 23 March 2017

1.30pm - 5.00pm

The Library of Birmingham, Centenary Square, Broad Street, Birmingham, B1 2ND

The fourth industrial revolution is with us. A key enabler of this digital change has been attributed to the Internet of things. However, organisations still struggle to adopt these key technologies; whilst it is widely seen as disruptive, multiple businesses are struggling to develop the right ecosystem to ensure client adoption and success.

Charles Joel from IBM will discuss how the ecosystem is essential to this revolution. How small, medium and large businesses can develop a ‘win-win’ economy and how IBM is working with multiple SME vendors to develop a shared servitised revenue scheme and transition them from a traditional capex to an ‘as a service model’.

We are then pleased to welcome Chris Weston who will share his experience of working with startup accelerators to identify and partner with innovators in this arena, and discuss some of the risks and benefits for organisations of the rapid proliferation of internet-connected devices.

Steve Hilton will then investigate the rise of the intelligent personal assistant, specifically focussing on how Alexa-powered Echo and Echo Dot grew to be the best-selling products across Amazon last year.
