Synopsis:

The noise around application containerisation and micro-services has never been louder and with a raft of new and exotic sounding platforms like Istio, Helm, Calico, Flannel and of course Kubernetes - it is hard to know where to start.

This presentation aims to introduce where containers fit in the Cloud world with a particular focus on Kubernetes - greek for Helmsman or Pilot - which is arguably emerging as the de-facto choice for container orchestration. We'll discuss the history of containers, the background and core architecture of Kubernetes as well as take a look at the native Kubernetes platforms that are offered by the three leading Cloud providers:

  • Google Kubernetes Engine - Google GKE
  • Microsoft Azure Container Service - Azure ACS
  • Amazon Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes - Amazon EKS
