University Technical Colleges (UTCs) are a new and innovative education provision. There are now 49 UTCs in the UK and 2 in the NE region. The NE Futures UTC is the newest UTC in the country, opening in September 2018 with a year 10 and year 12 intake. The NE Futures UTC specialises in digital and health subjects and as such will help to address the skills gap in both of these disciplines in the region. The talk by the Principal, Dan Sydes will provide background to the UTC philosophy, discuss the development of the UTC in Newcastle, share the experience of creating a custom made building and reflect on the first term of operation.

Speaker:

Dan Sydes is the Principal of North East Futures UTC. His former role was that of Vice-Principal at UTC Reading in Berkshire - an oversubscribed UTC with an Ofsted rating of 'outstanding'. Daniel's teaching specialism subject is Computer Science.
