Android set to become primary system for app developers, expert claims

App developers will increasingly turn to Android as their preferred mobile operating system.

That is according to ABI Research, which said the Google-based system is set to topple Apples iOS as the main platform for app developers.

Michael Morgan, senior analyst of mobile devices at the market intelligence company, commented: 'In the near future a shift will occur whereby Android will become the primary platform for application development and iOS will become the secondary target.

'This shift will be helped along as the Android ecosystem grows in size and improves its application store technology.'

The comments follow the publication of a global survey by GetJar, which showed that almost 40 per cent of respondents said they will switch to Android when they purchase their next phone.

By way of contrast, just 18 per cent said they will be switching to the iPhone.

Mr Morgan added: 'As Android grows in size, it becomes an increasingly important target for developers.'
