Mcommerce made easier through optimisation?


Retailers could benefit from optimising their websites for mobile use, a move that one industry expert has said makes mcommerce that much easier to engage with.

Director-general of the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Stephen Robertson noted that the digital retail boom is still ongoing, with mobile emerging as the 'star performer' and stores optimising their transactional mobile platforms and applications.

'Consumers are always looking for more convenient ways to shop,' Mr Robertson remarked, adding that the number of retail searches conducted on tablets and smartphones more than trebled in the second quarter of the year compared with the same period in 2010.

Figures from the BRC indicated that during the second quarter, total retail search volumes climbed by 27 per cent compared with 12 months ago.

This comes after Martec International's IT in Retail study - sponsored by BT Expedite - revealed that ecommerce and mcommerce have become the primary IT investment priorities for retailers for the first time, climbing to 23 per cent in 2011 from 17 per cent last year.
