Synopsis
Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world, with less than 1% of the population connected to the internet, however the government is driving for Tanzania’s technological development. This presentation will examine whether the drive for technology is beneficial for Tanzania, what e-learning is doing for the country and what potential is there for expansion in schools and Higher Education. Lastly the presentation will discuss the MOOCAfrica initiative recently registered in Tanzania, bringing home grown MOOCs to Tanzania and Africa as a whole.
About the speaker
Eleanor Dewar
Eleanor Dewar is a Committee Member of the BCS e-learning SG. In 2013 she founded Ocelot Education Research, a research focused consultancy organisation. She specialises in higher education – the development of new pedagogies in higher education in the developing world, radical educational theory and the effects of the information revolution in education. She has experience in educational research in Europe and Asia and is expanding her connections into Africa through her work with MOOCAfrica. She is currently studying for a Master’s in Education, Gender and International Development a UCL Institute of Education.
