An insight into cyber prevent: intervention for the next generation of illegal hackers.
Prevention is better than cure; Indeed, crime prevention is a primary policing role. In the digital age, young people grow up with increasing digital skills and those with a talent in this field will, as young people do, push the boundaries as they hone their skills, often with little or no knowledge of the law. This session looks at how UK policing is responding, establishing an intervention programme to try and identify potential illegal hackers, intervene with positive diversions and inspire them to use their skills ethically and lawfully.
The speakers will be Andy Baldwin and Steph Frankish. They are the Cyber Prevent Officers from the Eastern Regional Cyber Crime Unit.
Andy has been in law enforcement for 15 years, as a technical support officer, then with the National Cyber Crime Unit and for the last 15 months as a Cyber Prevent officer in regional policing.
Steph is a criminology graduate who has been in policing for 4.5 years in crime prevention and Counter Terror Prevent prior to the Cyber Prevent role.
